Tyler Helms

Tyler Helms

TCS is honored to feature Tyler Helms in our "Outstanding Students" page. Tyler came to TCS in the 4th grade from Unionville Elementary. She received high commendations from her former teachers as being conscientious in her studies, cooperative, and greatly gifted.

Our experience with Tyler has been just as impressive. Tyler continues to thrive academically with a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the National Junior Beta Club. She has been an asset and a great blessing to each of her teachers as an exemplary student with outstanding Christian character. This past year she scored in the 75th percentile on her standardized tests in Reading, Listening, and Math Skills among all 7th grade students in the nation.

Tyler not only excels academically, but she has a passion for soccer. Tyler has developed this passion since the age of four when she began playing soccer with the Piedmont Recreation Association of Monroe. Her coaches taught her the basic rules of the game along with the concept of teamwork, sportsmanship, and the importance of encouraging others. One of her favorite coaches, Mr. Jerry Fehlman (back left in picture below), always uses the terms “excellent and exceptional” when referring to his players. He always encourages the girls to do the BEST they can do in ALL that they do.

Tyler has accomplished much in her pursuit of soccer. Some of these accomplishments include:

  • Union County Tournament Champions (U7) – 2005
  • Union County Tournament Champions (U8) – 2006
  • U7 Coaches Award
  • U8 Coaches Award
  • Conference Champions 2007

She started playing with the “Blue Angels” (an all-girls team at Piedmont Recreation) at the age of nine. They have made quite an impression. For the past four years, the “Blue Angels” have come together in June to play in the Powerade State Games of NC. In 2010 they won "SILVER." In 2011 and 2012 they won "GOLD!!"

In the fall of 2010, Tyler began playing with the Mecklenburg Union Futbol Club (MUFC) in Matthews, NC. Her soccer skills drastically improved while with the MUFC. In 2010 her team made the finals in the Lake Norman Classic Tournament, and in 2011 they were the FCCA Carolina Shootout Champions.

During this time, Tyler also played soccer on our TCS team. Her athletic abilities shone here as well. In 2011 she was awarded the trophy for Best Offense, and in 2012 she received the MVP trophy.

While Tyler is proud of her soccer accomplishments, she realizes that soccer is a TEAM sport. Each member plays a vital role in the game. She is thankful for her teammates and realizes that without ALL of them, WINS would not be possible.

Tyler is most thankful for her personal relationship with God. She believes that all things are possible through Christ. She and her family are faithful members at Midway Baptist Church in Wingate.
