Trent Linville

Trent Linville - Salutatorian Class of 2012

What a difference Trent Linville made this past year at our Christian school! Trent transferred to Tabernacle for his senior year. He had attended public schools his entire life where he worked hard and achieved many honors. Even in elementary school he achieved several awards for academic excellence and a writing award. During middle school he ranked in the top ten of his class and was a member of the Junior Beta Club. He also had the privilege of participating in the Piedmont Middle daily broadcast.

Trent grew up in church and lived a “religious life.” However, during his high school years, the Lord began to show him that something was missing in his life. God began to deal with his heart and showed him that being a good person was not going to get him to heaven. God began convicting his heart during church one night. He did not accept Christ in church that night, but he went home, called his youth pastor, and received Christ as his Savior while talking to his youth pastor on the telephone. Since July 19, 2009, he has led a different life.

Trent wanted to use his life for God and make a difference in his high school. He became involved in several Christian groups at Piedmont High School such as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Committed Youth for Christ.

Trent heard about Tabernacle Christian School from a friend of his and felt the Lord telling him to change schools for his senior year. It was a hard decision, but it proved to be a very rewarding one.

Everyone was excited to hear that Trent had decided to come to Tabernacle because he was a great basketball player. He proved that to be true as he led the team in points and on to many victories. During the NCCSA State Tournament he scored 45 points, the most points ever scored at the host school during a State Tournament. Although he was given many basketball honors, anyone who knows Trent will tell you that basketball was not his primary focus. However, he used his abilities and position on the team to influence many of his teammates toward Christ.

Although Trent loved basketball, it was soon realized that it was not his first love. It did not take long for the teachers and students to see that Trent loved the Lord and desired to put Him first in his life. Trent allowed the Lord to continue working in his heart, and he surrendered to preach on September 20, 2011.

Trent was given several opportunities to preach while a student at TCS. He had the privilege of going on a mission trip to Africa shortly after coming to TCS and was able to preach while there. He preached several times in chapel and during regular church services at Bible Baptist Tabernacle. He also helped Mr. Stephen Leonard begin a nursing home ministry where he was able to preach often.

Trent graduated on May 18, 2012. He was the Salutatorian and was given the Christian Leadership award.

It was also during his year at Tabernacle that Trent met his lovely future wife. Trent will marry Taylor Griffin on Friday, July 20, Lord willing. They will reside in Wingate, North Carolina, after they are married.

Trent is currently working at ConMet and plans to attend Bible college in the fall.

Trent sums up his life by saying, “I haven’t done much, but I sure do love the Lord and want to serve Him with my whole heart.”
